Fun Shooting Games For The Whole FamilyFun shooting games like plinking cans or shooting clay pigeons are great for the entire family. Not only practice for hunting sports but just for the competitive value in seeing who is the best shot. Target shooting can get boring but add a target that moves and it suddenly gets a whole lot more fun. Tin cans are a staple for plinkers and targets like clay pigeons put on a hillside can greatly increase shooting pleasure. Floating sticks down the Colorado River is one of my all time favorites but make sure there is a steep bank behind your target because bullets ricochet off water like crazy. I have had great fun with exploding targets that go off like a shotgun boom when hit in the bullseye. I usually find these at gun shows and make for an excellent fun shooting game to see who can set it off first. Handgun shooting for speed at ranges of say 10 to 15 ft is a real challenge and could help save your life one day. Just make sure bullets don't ricochet of a hard surface and come back and hit you. My father used to enjoy Skeet shooting so we would go out behind the house and take turns blasting away with our shotguns and see who could out do one another. Not only was it fun but I became a lot more proficient with a shotgun and learned safe gun handling. Having shot in competition and being in the military my father made it clear that no screw ups in poor gun handling would be tolerated. Shooting clay pigeons with a shotgun is a lot of good cheap fun with ammo companies like winchester, Remington and Federal making good low cost shotgun shells and clay pigeons. Walmart is where I usually buy my supplies because you just can't beat their prices. All thats needed is a hand held trap or the cheap hand cocking string release trap and your good to go. Just be sure that everyone has in ear protection and that you pick up all your shell hulls and other trash before you go. People are just starting to come out with biodegradable clay pigeons so that will be a big help. Fun shooting games can be enjoyed with many different types of firearms the .22 Long Rifle being the most common. I use .223 semi-automatic rifles, centerfire handguns, shotguns and high power rifles. Many ranges have gongs set up at long range just for rifles and there are small gongs and spinning targets for handguns and small rifles. There are many different styles of targets on the market today. With all of the public land in Colorado finding somewhere to shoot is not to difficult like in some states. Any outdoor outing is usually an excuse to bring some type of firearm for some fun shooting games.
